Poetry, expressive language that evokes mental states, visions and feelings, always follows and sometimes influences deeply the cultural development of civilisations; nowadays, new multimedia technologies give the chance to use, besides poetry traditional items, words, more other means coming from different branches of art, as graphics, music or visual narration direction. In “unimedia” the whole of the new technologies melt creating new languages that are certainly going to change the future of poetry productions. The Competition has the purpose of helping the development of new generation’s imagination forms and to capture schools attention in every valid educational program. Those poems that are original and different in texts, sounds or images, with esthetical and lyrical value besides being technological, are going to get awarded. Because the mobile SMS is rapidly becoming a new multimedia communication frontier, and because of the so renewed “ cellspace”- the space built by mobiles network- with fresh expressive and communicative potential of cyberspazio, the revolution of the medias is completed, becoming totally portable ,therefore the fourth edition of the competition includes a special section dedicated to poems created using MMS. Using video-cameras integrated in telephone terminals and adding notes to the images (obtained following the changing writing codes) getting a multimedia message is a common practice among young people nowadays. Our invitation is to look carefully at the new languages coming directly from the daily use of this technology, and the aim of the competition is to stimulate, among young people and educational institutions, often distrustful, a creative, conscious, and- why not- genuinely cultural curiosity. The Competition introduces this year also another thematic section: the operas by podcasting The Podcast is a quite recent phenomenon, that gives the possibility to draw automatically audio and video documents from web-sites and thematic blogs, receiving on one’s computer the last documents or updating available, offering users, differently from the traditional channels of digital broadcast, the possibility to build their own cultural program, being updated only by selected information streams. This modality of production and use of multimedia contents is decisive in a situation of contamination between daily life and digital tools, reducing and decelerating the impact that new technologies often cause by offering and spreading documents, changing information into widespread fragments of voices, circumscribing the field of interest, making it “movable”( with the automatic synchronization between computers and the more common multimedia players) and self- updating. Podcasting allows to celebrate cultural differences and effects created by individual or groups involved in the construction of multimedia documents, offering a privileged view over large themes such as cultures, entertainment, education, society.. in small environments such as schools, quarters, companies…marking from podcaster solipsism or from the contextual comparison among its conversation partners, the expressive and creative potential stimulated by these new communication means. The use of mobiles for short videos, portable recorders, webcams, that are only some of the modern instruments that allow the creation of thematic podcast with a few resources but a great cultural impact compared to the small view they show, underlines with this peculiar communication model especially the new forms of dialogue and consciousness developing in youth’s world and in the places they live and grow up. The Competition invites to try the use of the most common tools, easy to reach for everyone ( recorders, mobiles, cameras and video- cameras, webcams…) to produce audio and video essays to be included in the technological dimension of the podcasting phenomenon ( short and small products, realized both as little events or series or as a small thematic program that has no more that 5 events), also characterised by introspective skill and critical curiosity proper of young people, to capture and portray with imagination and careful involvement, situations, themes, problems of the territorial and cultural dimension they belong to.
